Unlike the bull market of the late 1990s, there are actually more stocks that declined in 2021 than rose. In the bull market of the 1990s that ended with a severe market plunge in 2000-2002, almost all stocks rose dramatically regardless of whether they were likely to be profitable. That leaves room for further gains in the market.
