In this episode of The Personal Wealth Coach, Jake and Jeff—economists, educators, and admirably bearded co-hosts—tackle the latest economic shifts with their trademark blend of insight and humor. They dig into the first-quarter GDP estimate from the Atlanta Fed, which signals a surprising contraction of -2.2%, and explore the implications of recent tariff announcements on the U.S. economy.
Along the way, they explain why deflation is scarier than inflation, why tariffs function like sales taxes (but sneakier), and how a sudden drop in the dollar is sounding alarm bells in the bond market. With historical context, personal anecdotes (including garage-fulls of Chinese stereos), and a healthy dose of sarcasm, they examine whether we're entering a recession—or just rehearsing for one.
From stock market barometers to the price of socks and the fate of Treasury bonds, this episode offers a thought-provoking look at what’s really moving the economy—and what history says might happen next.

This week on The Personal Wealth Coach, Jake McClure goes solo behind the mic, diving headfirst into the economic chaos of tariffs, trade wars, and market mood swings. With his signature blend of candor and wit, Jake unpacks the week’s biggest market moves—like the S&P’s dramatic climb—and the political maneuvering behind them. From Liberation Day tariffs to the whiplash-inducing reversal of reciprocal duties, it’s been a week of economic policy that felt more like theater… if the playwright was equal parts strategist and stand-up comic.
Through sharp historical parallels and plainspoken analysis, Jake explores the deeper implications of a tariff-heavy trade stance: how it impacts corporations, consumers, and confidence across the board. There’s discussion of shipping trends, store brands, canceled vacations, and yes, even the curious rise of the word “yippee” in economic discourse. Whether you're in the C-suite or just trying to figure out if now is the time to buy that new car, this episode breaks it all down—minus the fluff, but with plenty of personality.

Welcome to another exciting episode of The Personal Wealth Coach Podcast with your hosts, Jeff and Jake McClure.
Money, markets, and mayhem—oh my! If you’re looking for sugar-coated optimism, you may have taken a wrong turn. But if you want a real, no-nonsense take on what’s happening in the economy (with just the right amount of wit), you’re in the right place.
This week, we’re diving into the chaos of politics, the economy, and those pesky tariffs that have everyone clutching their wallets a little tighter. It’s not all doom and gloom—okay, maybe a little—but stick around, because knowing the storm is coming means you can actually prepare for it.
Uncertainty is the market’s worst enemy, and right now, there’s plenty of it to go around. From consumer confidence taking a nosedive to corporate profits feeling the squeeze, the signs are there. The question is: what should you do about it? That’s exactly what we’re here to break down.
Buckle up, because this episode is packed with insight, analysis, and maybe a few rants. Let’s get into it.
